The Benefits of Holistic Physiotherapy for Mind and Body Wellness

When I started out as a physio I would get comments that confused me.

"I've never had a physio talk to me about my hypermobility before"

"I didn't know my endometriosis could have any connection to my headaches"

It never occurred to me not to try considering the whole person when approaching a physiotherapy consult. Even with a sprained ankle, the ankle is always connected to a whole person with their whole life's history written on their body.

Before training as a physio I was a Thai Massage therapist, Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist, Personal Trainer, and probably a few other things I've forgotten. I've spent my whole working life watching people move and helping them to do it better all over the world.

So when I watch someone walk, I'm not just looking at the knee problem that prompted them to book the consultation. I'm watching the foot, the ankle, the pelvis, the head and neck. I'm putting together the information from the body in motion with the history they've given me and I'm running through a vast library of techniques and exercises to work out the best, fastest way to restore function.

If that just sounds like what physiotherapy should be, I agree with you!

I don't mean to imply that other physios don't use a holistic lens. Many do and I have been privileged to work with several!

But if you have had experiences with physiotherapy that have left you feeling let down because they didn't try to get to grips with your entire history as it is written in your body, or if you felt like they just wanted to give you the same dozen or so exercises they give to everyone with a similar issue, please know that I work differently.

I would love the opportunity to welcome you as a client and show you a different way to approach healing.
